WE NEED YOUR HELP, NOW! Epilepsy Therapy Project (ETP) is a non-profit organization focused on advancing the development and use of new therapies for people living with epilepsy. We are not supported by government grants. We do not receive funds from other foundations. We exist on voluntary support from the epilepsy community: people whose lives are touched by epilepsy, their families, and their friends.
ETP needs donations from our community in order to continue our work. Please donate now!
You may donate on-line on our secure website http://www.epilepsy.com/epilepsy/donation_form, or by mail using the form at http://www.epilepsy.com/pdfs/donation_form.pdf
I recently was called to jury duty, making me think about the similarity with charitable giving. Both are "civic responsibilities" that demonstrate our sense of fairness, humility, and honesty. Jurors pass judgment on one party versus another. As a member of the epilepsy community, you also pass judgment on ETP when you visit our website www.epilepsy.com to find information, participate in discussions or chats, and the many other activities offered. Doctors and nurses pass judgment on www.epilepsy.com/professionals when they seek treatment updates or download information sheets for their patients. Researchers and pharmaceutical developers pass judgment when they visit the ETP website www.epilepsy.com/epilepsy_therapy_project to learn about conferences, opportunities for grants, and other entrepreneurial activities that we sponsor.
We know that 180,000 - 200,000 unique individuals visit our websites monthly. If we charged every visitor $10 per year, we could raise $2,000,000. We don’t charge viewing fees – but, the time has come to ask people to contribute in order to help the whole community. I am asking YOU to fulfill your civic responsibility by making a donation to support our activities.
Every dollar YOU donate goes toward grants for development of new therapies and education about epilepsy diagnosis and treatments.
ETP provides funds for scientists whose ideas are at the stage where they could be useful for patients, if additional funds are provided to help them move to the next stage of development. These grants differ from typical government grants that usually focus on earlier stages. ETP focuses on therapies that can be commercialized – to reach patients.
ETP also serves as a co-investor in emerging companies with potential new therapies. We can invest your donations to help these entrepreneurs attract more investors so they can raise the millions of dollars needed to prepare for patient testing. If our investments are wise, we can reinvest the funds for new programs. If the project does not succeed, the funds are considered a grant. The point is that if WE (ETP and YOU) do not help emerging companies, they cannot endure the process of new therapy development in order to reach patients.
Epilepsy Therapy Project awards grants to help move ideas for new therapies forward, but we do not have enough money to support all of them. In fact, we award only a half-dozen grants yearly. YOU CAN HELP us to support more of these promising new ideas! You may ask that your donation will be used for this purpose.
Epilepsy Therapy Project develops new material every month for our website. This takes a lot of money. YOU CAN HELP us to support more sections and new information! You may ask that your donation will be used for this purpose.
Please donate now and ask your friends & family to donate with you. It's the only way we can assure that the epilepsy community does not miss an opportunity to find better treatments.
Thank you,
Joyce Cramer, President
